Riad Souafine

Sefrou South of Riad Souafine

Sefrou: 30km from Fez.

Cherry Festival / June

Long before Fez became an Imperial City and spiritual capital, Sefrou was the rich and dominant city of the region. Today, beautiful asleep, Sefrou is unfairly ignored by visitors. However, this town has a lot of charm, its old medina crossed by an open-air river, its alleys, its stalls and the kindness of its inhabitants make it a pleasant and lively place. On Thursday, the day of the market (souk) the city is invaded by peasants from remote villages and the change of scenery is total. The architecture of the medina of Séfrou is very different from that of Fez, the height of the houses is much more modest, the lanes have a rural aspect and a human scale.

A few minutes away from SEFROU is the troglodyte and picturesque village of BHALILL which inspires the artists. No one can resist the charm of these colorful lanes and the kindness of the inhabitants of BHALILL who often invite you to have tea in their house
